Developed & used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 3,000 years, Gua Sha was originally used as a technique performed only on the body in a vigorous motion to release lymphatic stagnation, muscle tension & improve circulation. More recently, Gua Sha has adapted to Western culture resulting in a much more gentle approach suitable to treat our shoulders, neck & face.

Benefits of Gua Sha Facial Therapy:

  • Encourages self-hydration of skin.

  • Defines & tones facial muscles.

  • Prevents wrinkles & improve appearance of existing lines.

  • Releases muscle tension in shoulders, neck & face to allow for proper lymphatic function.

  • Encourages microcirculation, bringing oxygen & other nutrients to skin.

  • Overall relaxation & allows the nervous system to enter a parasympathetic state.

  • Moves stagnant blood & lymph that may contribute to dark circles & under-eye bags.

  • Reduces appearance in congestion & blemishes.

  • Aids in quicker recovery from blemishes & prevent scarring.

  • Allows serums to penetrate deeper post-treatment.

Gua Sha Facial Therapy includes cleanse, relaxing Gua Sha, customized finishing products. Extractions are not included, nor are they recommended.  Best results are seen with a weekly series, though you will experience glowing results from just one treatment!

After a single session most will notice a more defined jawline & cheek bones, lifting of brows, de-puffed eye area along with overall more radiant complexion.  To achieve more lasting results, a weekly series of 8-10 sessions is encouraged.

Gua = to scrape or rub

Sha = reddish rash (petechiae), blood stagnation, or flow to surface of skin

Facial Gua Sha stems from the Chinese Medical practice known as gua sha to address and heal various ailments of the body. Although Gua Sha is the more well-known name for the technique, it also has deep histories throughout South East Asia. It’s known as Cao Yio in Vietnam, Kerokan in Indonesia, Khoud Lam in Laos, Ga Sal in Cambodia.
Gua Sha | Facial Rejuvenation
is a facial technique that involves the uni-directional press-stroking of a small jade or gemstone board to bring about a fundamental change in the skin by clearing stagnation and accumulation in the channel system that directly correlates and has a profound effect on the health and/or disfunction of the skin. By venting the channel system and opening the pathways that feed the skin, we are able to ignite the skins natural healing power and affect long-term change.

Gua Sha is performed using gentle press-stroking massage movements to manipulate and stimulate specific energy lines and points along the face and body, which help break up blood stagnation, free toxic accumulation, promote lymphatic drainage and increase the life force energy that runs throughout our body.

Gua Sha is an effective facial massage modality that directly affects the connective tissue and muscles to help untangle and iron out the fascia that is bound with tension and traps accumulated wastes from stressors of daily life. It helps unwind the tissue, restores mobility and create space for the optimal flow of blood, oxygen, lymph and nutrients.

In Mandarin Chinese the pronunciation is guāshā which has a high-level tone on the ‘a’ sound. This is a steady high sound, produced as if it were being sung instead of spoken. The ‘sh’ is the similar to English. When the ‘sh’ is pronounced ‘s’, it signifies a regional accent usually in the south. Both pronunciations are correct with the most popular being the standard Mandarin.

A Brief History coming soon, please stay tuned as we complete our research. In the meantime, here is one of my favorite quotes.

“Gua Sha resonates deeply with simple back-to-basics approach to healing. It is not, and never has been reserved for experts or healers. It is part of a body of knowledge so profound and enduring that it is inconceivable that it does not belong to everyone. It was after all passed down from generation to generation and has always been more of a folk treatment to be used at home than a procedure performed in a medical centre.

Indeed, in some areas, it was quite literally seen as the “people’s medicine.” Essentially, Gua Sha is not the realm of expert specialists with gleaming new scrapers and painful prices. It is the realm of you and your family. Your friends. Your partners. Your neighbours. We collectively own it. And we owe it ourselves to ensure that we know how to use it safely and securely.

As in most things, it is much better to learn by doing and have someone correct you, than learn from the pages of a book. After all, this is the way Gua sha was handed down through the generations.

As a treatment modality, Gua Sha is all about the skin: what happens on it and under it.” – Clive Witham

The CJB Gua Sha Facial Fusion is an integrated facial rejuvenation therapy based on the traditions of Traditional Chinese Medicine, (TCM), Traditional Thai Medicine (TTM) and the profound cell renewal and life-sustaining importance of Manual Lymphatic Drainage for maintaining youth and vitality.

The CJB Gua Sha Facial Fusion therapy achieves immediately noticeable results in the appearance of fine lines, deep wrinkles, dark circles, puffy eyes and sagging skin by combining a unique blend of facial massage therapies that clears noxious accumulation, releases deep-seeded tension and promotes the free flow of vital nutrients to feed the skin and repattern the way it ages.

By increasing movement through massage and restoring inner mobility, the skin is able to naturally clear deleterious obstructions that lead to acne, rosacea, puffiness, dark circles and sensitivities. Igniting this natural healing power, the skin flourishes, develops a fresh healthy glow that radiates from within and results in long-term benefits.
